Some days ago I was asked to host an article about a topic extremely “green inspired”.
Fashion Industry has never been so green. “So critical, so fashion” is only one of the slogan we could use to introduce the upcoming blooming of fresh and clean thoughts in the glitteriest field of our days.
Eco – Fashion is not only the combination of two words I care a lot, it’s much more than a word – it is a concept, a philosophy that the New York Times labeled as “ The Green Movement in the Fashion World” in March 2009.
Even if we are getting used to talk about it recently since brands, stylists and even an Hollywood star like Natalie Portman has showed us how “fashion could be compassion” launching her line of vegan shoes, its roots can be traced back in late 80’s.
But is there a way we can take part in this growing sustainable fashion style? I guess what we can do is something that can easily change and improve our lifestyle.
—✭— Reevaluate Your Fashion Consumption —✭—
Fashion low coast brands have dropped down by three percent within 10 years the women’s clothing prices. “People are addicted to shopping and consuming and having new things all the time. Things are so accessible, you can look like a celebrity immediately and for a fiver,” said Jane Shepherdson, a clothing businesswoman. Even if this could sound amazing at first sight, it could be extremely dangerous. I’m convinced we should try to reinvent our fashion style.
To reinvent also means reuse and recycle our old clothes. Try to keep more attention about eco-friendly materials such as hemp, organic cotton, ruffles and many others.
Dr Frances Corner, head of the London College of Fashion, explained that we should think smarter in choosing our clothes. “We have to think more carefully before we buy, probably to buy fewer clothes anyway, and pay more for them.” he said.We should try to redesign and alter some old clothes to make it vogue once again. Remember that “fashion fades, while style remains” – as the great Coco Chanel once said.In Milan, I’ve recently participate in an interesting project called “Paola Frani heritage” where the aim is to demonstrate that goods from old collections could be contemporary adding something modern like a statement necklace or a piece taken from the latest among trends.Meanwhile, M&S fashion blogger Linsey Mitchinson wrote that mixing and matching your old clothes with your new ones can still make you as fashionable as ever. “There are plenty of ways to spruce up a second-hand item. Sometimes you can combine two pieces, to create something exciting and unique,” Mitchinson said.
Thrift shops, more often than not, do sell branded clothes and shoes at a fair price. Most of these clothes and shoes are made of durable materials that last even for a lifetime. Since fashion is generally about how you carry yourself in different kinds of clothes, certain pieces of garments in thrift shops and second-hand stores can complete a trendy getup. Also, you can use websites like Craigslist to look for online sellers of pre-owned clothes. For fashionistas like me and perhaps you, I guess these simple tips could be even more challenging to style ourself in a more creative and exciting way. One person said “streets are our everyday runaway” and styling our clothes using eco-friendly perspectives can be our way of showing the world how we can be fashionable even if we’re thinking about the environment. Be Green, because green is the new black!

That’s amazing to discover how many people “love green” – keep on going xxx
Lovely post friend, I too am a huge fan of re-use recycle. Its funny you mention the vintage store aspect of fashion. I still have many suits from the 40-50’s that are in next to mint condition I have a personal obsession with mens fashion from the 20-50’s back when being a gentleman was not a fad but a true way of life. These suits are very very well constructed from a time when the fabric quality and craftmenship of a garmet was a tailors signature.
Sempre.

Hey Benjamin, I could bet you were a fan of giving things a second choice. I think this is our creative mind’s fault :).
Love what you said about what really makes a 20-50′s suit so charming – a real inspiration to a true way of elegant life. I’ve never thought about that. Once again you made me think – in a positive way, of course.
