Portugal Ceramics “the Art of infinite possibility” tour: between emotion, concept and technology

How many possibilities and variations of Portuguese ceramics can you count? Infinite. Infinite like the passion of the companies that produce them. A production rooted in the territory, solidly deep and fragilely emotional. Like ceramic, solid and fragile at the same time. “The Art of infinite possibility” Tour organized by Portugal Ceramics, from 20 to 23 June 2023, perfectly conveyed the idea of an ART fragmented, in its declinations, and unitary in identity.

Portugal as the leitmotif of Portuguese ceramics

Art shakes the dust accumulated in everyday life from the soul. – Pablo Picasso

Art, in general, is the one that saves us from banality and helps not to be overwhelmed by the world. The ceramics’s one is not only salvation. It’s Aesthetics and function. Decor and use. It accompanies us in the ordinary and in the extra-ordinary. The ordinary represented by everyday actions and the extraordinary touch that adds other more special moments. Ordinary and extra-ordinary, just like the production of every single object. An ancient history that, with the help of technology, is step by step more sustainable and respectful.

The art of ceramics and its territory

Common features and peculiarities. Passion and love for their land that is handed down from generation to generation. Portugal ceramics is the incubator that allows each individual identity to grow, develop and make itself known in the world.

Our DNA is creative, our craftsmanship is refined, our dedication is unquestionable, and that's what makes us extraordinary.

Common DNA for unique companies. Each one rooted in its own language and territory. Like GRESTEL – whose logo represents in stylized form the colored striped fishermen’s houses of the nearby village of Aveiro. “Good things are green” is the phrase, to be repeated like a mantra, which can be read at the entrance to the company. Mantra that becomes reality with the patented “ECO GRÈS” trademark. In 2023, sustainability is no longer an option. It becomes a necessity. Sustainability is ethics and aesthetics at the same time.

We want people to spend time around a table – Grestel marketing manager Liliana Cachim tells us, before saying goodbye.

Between tradition and innovation: MatCeramica, Vista Alegre and Bordallo Pinheiro

MatCeramica: colors and materials inspired by nature. Like those of the “The 5th Element” collection. A representation of the perfect symbiosis between the four seasons and the four natural elements. To be brought to the table every day, to be used in unique moments.

Made in Portugal Naturally

Waste that is reused for sustainable production.

Vista Alegre: a brand that speaks a timeless language. Collector’s items that have been entering people’s homes for decades and are destined to stay there, from generation to generation. From 1824 to today, carrying on a tradition that places beauty and innovation at the centre.

Bordallo Pinheiro: leaves, animals, vivid colors and iridescent shades. The ceramics of the company founded in 1884 are inspired by Portuguese daily life. Then they reinterprets it with audacity and critical sense. Renaissance, Naturalism, Art Nouveau, Spanish and Arab heritage come together in the collections leading to something unique and extremely captivating.

A swallow won’t make spring but it’s certainly one of the most iconic decorations of this company. Like the butterflies, created in recent times by the model Claudia Schiffer.
