Fashion interview with Marie-Joëlle, stylish dreamer from from Montreal

Fashion interview with Marie – Joëlle from Montréal. A stylish girl with a dreamy attitude and a strong determination. An enthusiastic point of view, keeping her feet on the ground. The perfect combination: she knows what she wants and what she wants to achieve without losing the ability to get excited by ordinary things. Let’s read her story and be inspired.

1. Who were you some years ago?
I was a dreamer, a believer. I had this firm thought that I could be successful in the media industry. It was around 13 years old that I started considering it as a career, but where to start? Growing up I wanted to be a TV Host in Montreal. People of my age didn’t take me seriously. I am from a small town in the province of Quebec, where when someone stands out, that person is not normal. I could say I was bullied for my dreams, my ambitions, but that didn’t stop me. I took their words as motivation.

2. Who are you now?
Now I’m in my final semester as a student in Communication at Concordia University. I am a fashion blogger and PR manager for two Montreal brands, Hermust The Label and French Fiasco. Now I know I want to focus my career on the fashion industry. Go to Fashion Weeks around the world, all of them, from Paris to Copenaghen to Tokyo. All of them. I also want to expand my knowledge about social media with other brands or agencies. And I also want to pursue a successful career as fashion blogger/content creator on Instagram.

3. Who would you like to be in a close future?
A successful women in the field of my dreams. Travelling the world, meeting new people that I will cherish the encounter. Happy and still ambitious.

Fashion interview, chanel number 5, art

A minimal, fashionable aesthetic, made of the most stylish palette

4. How you would describe your aesthethic?
Very minimalist, yet very fashionable. Lots of white and beige. Clothes-wise I like neutral colours, black, white, grey, beige, kaki, brown…

5. How do you build your imagenery world?
It would be a world where our differences bring us all together, and empower us all. A world where everyone is accepted for who they are, proud of who they are and happy about who they are. A world where there’s no competition, just help and empowerment.

6. Who are you looking for when you think and then create your photos?

I’m looking for my mom. She taught everything I know about aesthetics, designs and fashion. If I feel like she is going to like this photo, it means it’s the one. If I feel like she would screenshot it and put it in her « inspo archives » it means it’s the one.

7. Where do you look for inspiration?
Anywhere. I see art everywhere and anywhere. I’ve been told that I have the heart of a child. Everything lights up my eyes and my heart. Everything gets me excited. I could just take a walk in my favourite neighborhood in Montreal and I would find inspiration. Travelling inspires me. The seasons inspire me. Nature inspires me. Humans inspire me.

8. What’s your idea of success, either in Instagram or real life?
In real life, I would say if I am happy and surrounded by people I love and who love me, who support me in my ups and down, working in the field of my dreams with a beloved husband by side, I would say that I am successful.

On Instagram, I used to think that success equals your number of followers. Lately I realized that it is not. I feel successful after all the sweet messages from strangers that I receive, whether telling me I inspire them to maintain a healthy lifestyle or because they like my style or just my photos. If I can give this feeling of gasp to my followers whenever I post, I feel that I am successful.

Fashion interview

Sustainability is something we all should consider, here is her point of view

9. Do you think sustainability could be either aesthetic or ethic? A fulfill way to respect lfe.

I think it is both. The 70s are super trendy at the moment, so I see a lot of vintage / 70s inspired looks, so going to thrift shops is the easiest way to easily pull off that look. But I am also thinking about Zara and H&M that now try to be more sustainable by recyclying old clothes and I honestly do not see the difference. There is no shame in thrift shopping and/or in recyclant clothes. I wear clothes that my mom used to wear at my age and it doesn’t even show. Take care of your clothes and they can go a long run with you.

10. If you could choose a super power, which one would it be and to do what?
My super power would be to be eternal. Life demands to be lived, not to be dreamed.
