Interview with a photographer. Nick Prideaux catches the extraordinary

Interview with a photographer of life. This is how I’d like to describe Nick Prideaux, an Australian based in Paris. What struck me about his photos is the ability to tell the ordinary in an extraordinary way. The ordinary, seen through the eyes of an artist, leaves that taste of surprise and amazement.

Interview with a photographer: who is he?

Who were you some years ago?
Living in Australia working for a ballet company with artistic dreams but a little lost about what I really wanted to do.

Who are you now?
Still finding my way but with more confidence. I’m grateful to be who I am and where I am in my life. I’m excited about the future.

Who would you like to be in a close future?
Working full time on creative projects that mean the most to me. A softer, more compassionate version of myself where I am content to be in the moment. To be always curious and inspired.

How would you describe your aesthetic? In a world where everyone takes photos, what are you looking at to be unique?
Fleeting, simplistic scenes with a play on light and colour. I look for something that is both obvious and hidden at the same time.

How do you build your imaginary world? Do you agree with the quote: “a photo is able to steal someone’s soul?”

It’s a slow process of refining and refining, subtraction more than addition. A photo is a lie, it takes a scene and twists it – this can include a person.

The perfect photo described in an interview with a photographer

3 things a perfect photo should have?

Light, composition and something that resonates.
Where do you look for inspiration?

Films, photo books, Tumblr, good music.

What’s your idea of success, either in Instagram or real life?
To wake up and do what you love, every day.

What makes a great photo, or Instagram feed – imagined as a collage of photos – really “great”?

A strong vision tha’s unique and consistent.

If you could choose a super power, which one would it be and to do what?
Teleportation. I’ve got friends and family in different parts of the world so I wish I could be with them without the hassle of planes.
