Philanthropists of fashion, color theory and Prada

Philanthropists of fashion, color theory and Miuccia Prada. Decomposed associations decomposed that, as a stream of thought, lead me to connect seemingly distant worlds. As I’m writing, I’m not yet sure whether there is a common thread between them or if they are only three issues that have caught my attention recently.

Philanthropists of fashion and then?

We often hear talking about philanthropy – love for human beings – but in a distorted way and far from the original meaning. There are people, leaders of important brands, they do something good for the society, apparently without a return. Among philanthropists of fashion there is Bernard Arnault, CEO of LVMH, which established in 2013 a prize “LVMH Prize for young fashion designers“.

“We want to teach the young talents that creativity alone is not enough. To become successful designers, in a large group or to remain independent, we must cultivate many other capabilities, from the management, understood in the broadest sense of the term ‘

300 thousand euros plus a year of mentoring by LVMH will allow the young designer to build the business.

Initiative worthwhile, perhaps more than the one of our connational Diego Della Valle who decided to finance the restoration of the Colosseum in exchange for the use of one of the Seven Wonders of the World for promotional purposes. Is this a modern form of philanthropy?

Color theory and philanthropists of fashion

For some there are only red yellow and blue, so-called primary colors. For someone else only black and white. And for many others the color theory has nothing scientific, but it is an  humoral and intuitive association, a bit as the one on a psychologist’s couch. Some people experience the classic monochrome combining different shades of the same color; there are those who play with contrasts – lovers of colored blocks; those who prefer the mix & macth and architect who always dress in black – if you’ve ever wondered why architects wear black, you can read the book “why do architects wear black?” by Cordula Rau.

In any case, thinking about how to combine colors of clothing and accessories has a philanthropic meaning, especially for the unconscious ability to influence the mood of those meet on the street.

Why philanthropists of fashion should have a relationship with Miuccia Prada

“I do not believe in people who think that clothes are not important” – Miuccia Prada

The intellectual and intelligent designer. The Empress of fashion, like any self-respecting journalist never ceases to remember, ahe was used to go to the ’68 event in Saint Laurent. When the journalist of Republblica Guia Soncini asked her if people buy her clothes in order to seem more intelligent and hang on every word to the point that “fall her”, even when she proposes sandal with socks,  she answered:

” I swear I do not. It’s the search for something new, something that may upset. If I can not do something with a bit displace feeling I’m not doing my job. “

And maybe philanthropists of fashion today, in a world where no one does anything for nothing, are people who love their craft in all of its many facets; who do not lose the opportunity to study how to dress, to provoke, and imagine what they did as a lifestyle.
