YESTERDAYTODAYROME. My relationship with Rome is a real love story.

Sometimes I hate “her” for the apparent inaction and stillness. She seems stuck there in the past when the city, as well as everyday life, was on another ground level.

Sometimes I love her in such a visceral way and I would imagine myself in those little streets, the ones that once saw iconic actors and actresses walking and admiring the twisted and picturesque historical center; all of the buildings tinted by the color of amber and the warm soft light full of that magician that has made of the Eternal city the symbol of  “La Dolce vita” in the world.

When I discovered the work of this photographer I almost felt that everything has become possible…again.

Every shot is a very refined and sophisticated picture of a corner of a Rome of the past with the popular protagonists (Brigitte Bardot, Audrey Hepburn, Clint Eastwood),  the historical shops (Bulgari), her people who are still alive today. Colored. Changed in tone and nuances for a new representation, but basically the same of yesterday and inherently infused with the flavor of the times that  you can enjoy in Rome every day again.

ROMA IERI E OGGI. Il mio rapporto con Roma è una vera e propria storia di amore.
 
A volte la odio per il suo apparente immobilismo, perché sembra bloccata lì nel passato, quando la città, così come la vita in generale, si svolgeva su un altro livello, più basso di quello attuale.
A volte la amo in una maniera viscerale e vorrei immaginarmi in quelle strade che un tempo hanno visto attori e attrici iconiche calpestare e ammirare il suo centro piccolo e contorto, i suoi palazzi tinti del colore dell’ambra e la sua luce calda e magica che non a caso rende la città Eterna il simbolo nel mondo della “Dolce vita“.
 
Quando ho scoperto il lavoro di questo fotografo mi è quasi sembrato che tutto ciò sia diventato possibile…di nuovo.
 
Ogni singolo scatto è un quadro raffinato e sofisticato di un angolo di una Roma del passato, con i suoi protagonisti (Brigitte Bardot, Audrey, Sophia Loren), i suoi negozi (Bulgari), la sua gente che rivivono oggi. A colori. Cambiati nei toni e nelle sfumature di una moderna rappresentazione, ma fondamentalmente uguali e intrinsecamente pervasi di quel sapore di altri tempi che Roma può farti assaporare oggi ogni giorno di nuovo.
