It ‘s too much time since I’ve been spoken only about fashion, ignoring architecture and design. It is probably because the last two ones are my work that often I take them for granted. Finally, today I’ve decided to show you my idea of architecture through these photos of Mariyama House in Tokyo. Kazuyo Sejima is definitely my favorite contemporary architect for her Eastern attitude to be essential. She is a woman, Japanese and more than architecture she creates an “environment” where the inside and the outside are a continuum where open and close spaces are combined. I had my impression confirmed when I visited Japan ❤. Do you like it? or do you find minimal architecture too cold and unwelcoming? Let me know which are your tastes because I’m super curious.
non solo un’architettura. E’ troppo tempo che parlo solo di moda, trascurando l’architettura e il design. Sarà perché l’ultimo riguarda il mio lavoro che spesso dò per scontato molte cose. Oggi, però ho deciso di mostrarvi la mia idea di architettura attraverso queste foto di Mariyama house aTokyo. Kazuyo Sejima è decisamente il mio architetto contemporaneo preferito. E’ una donna, è Giapponese, crea un “ambiente” piuttosto che un’ architettura dove l’interno e l’esterno sono un continuum senza interruzioni, e i pieni e i vuoti sono ben combinati. Ho avuto conferma di questa mia impressione quando ho visitato il Giappone ❤. Vi piace? o trovate l’architettura minimale troppo fredda e poco accogliente? Fatemi sapere quali sono i vostri gusti che sono super curiosa.
Tokyo e Kyoto sono due città stupende dove le contraddizioni convivono, la natura risplende, e le atmosfere sono incantate

I love the way the “cubes” interlock/layer each other yet giving each other new spaces everywhere in the house as a whole.
This technique can be found in Malaysia’s and Singapore’s Peranakan shophouse architecture (since 1920s) – elongated but layered with each level, which looks in onto each other, and having an internal courtyard somewhere at the back of the house with the natural sunlight raining in.
Back to Sejima, the house can be warmed up by tasteful interiorizing – Roche Bobois modular sofa would definitely add a warmth with is rich colors 😉 and articles with Moroccan accents. It would be an eclectic atmosphere of modern and traditional articles – making it a homely and intriguing place for entertaining guests and nurturing a family 😀

Japan was my childhood playground and love Japan dearly, it pains me very very much to see the Fukushima tragedy display the ugliness of the govt towards the abandoned animals.
Hei, your words teach me a lot, as usual. I’ve looked for the kind of architecture you are talking about, and there are many interesting concepts. You caught the real “soul” of this house made by several elements that together make a whole!

Wow you are lucky to leave close to Japan, I wish I could go there again. People and places have an attitude to respect and beauty that I will never find somewhere else. Did you live in Japan? I’m looking forward to see your posts about your run :-)!!!!
My family’s business was in the shipping engineering where the principal office is in Osaka. So we would always travel up and down Japan at least 5 times a year since I was 3 to 11 🙂 My papa would take me and personally let the school know “Jeannie is not going to school this week.” Hehehe 😀 More snippets of experiences in my posts!! In un’epoca kitsch come questa trovo il minimal un vero sollievo: è una continua visione elegante e ordinata, un ritorno all’essenziale con solo pieni e vuoti. La trovo molto più vicina alla vera essenza della natura, e permette una fusione con l’ambiente e una libertà di poter continuamente adattare e trasformare il luogo in cui viviamo che gli edifici “classici” non hanno. La Sejima in questo penso sia la migliore. Buona giornata!

Esattamente! sono proprio d’accordo con te! Solo se l’architettura tende ad annullarsi è possibile fonderla con la natura. Siamo spesso assordati da tutti questi stili e non abbiamo neanche spazio per esprime un pò la nostra personalità. Lei è davvero una forte!!! grazie mille e un bacio!!! xxx

Io adoro gli interni giapponesi e il giappone :-). Sì alla fine questa casa rimane meno minimal delle altre, forse perché è una casa che in parte va affittata e quindi non ha tutti quegli arredi su misura il cui risultato è di estrema freddezza appunto. Io l’ho ascoltata di persona a una conferenza alla’accademia giapponese di Roma. Sì sembra molto riservata e chiusa. Diciamo che le sue architetture sono molto più forti e decise di questa minutissima donna (sarà alta 1,50 cm):-). cmq la adoro. grazie mille janine
