Makoto Egashira, the artist that works with traditional Jananese blankets

Makoto Egashira the Japanese artist who covers spaces, objects and human figures with floral print rococo blankets. Precious objects that were easily found in homes, during the economic rise of Japan, after the war.

The installations often represent domestic scenes. They are interiors like small bathrooms, dining rooms or living rooms.

They synthesize Japan’s eternal conflict with Western culture. That relationship of love and hate that makes the Eastern world so far, but fascinating for us.
