How to go to a fashion show? It‘s a common question for those who read, write or love fashion. Everybody knows about Fashion Week, but few know what it really is. We are speaking about the true non-experts, of course.
Who has a blog – especially if you have just started it – surely you‘ve thought, at least once, about how to go to a fashion show.
And for sure, you will come across the first obstacles and have had some difficulties.
How to go to a fashion show and who goes there?
My knowledge of the fashion week, a decade ago, was a mini summary made at the end of the tg news. I looked at those runways with curiosity and detachment hearing comments such as “excessive”, “is okay, but who sets them?!?”. And ‘no doubt that – today – intermediate figures in the fashion – bloggers, photographers of street style, new deisgner and characters from the eclectic personality – have approached the very imaginary fashion and glamor, to the end user. But who goes right to the fashion shows, without problems and dramas?
- 1\4 are buyers – from department store to shop online through the independent boutiques.
- The other great part are magazine editor: directors, editors and stylists. In their case it is not only required to go to every major show – the empty chair could be a great offense for the designer – but also writing about each show. They are called to discover the trends for next season, looking for new silhouettes, proportions, colors and fabrics and to understand the pieces to be “host” in future editorials.
- other giornalist freelance for online magazines, daily and weekly newspapers
What should you know when you think about how to go to a fashion show?
If the ultimate intention is to describe the collection, then it is essential to have a great fashion vocabulary.
Making the collection alive with words is the job of a journalist and if you read a Tim Blanks’s review on style.com or a Suzy Menkes’s on vogue, you understand the way thay transmit to the reader the whole mood of the collection, the cult items, novelties and briefly the stylistic evolution of the brand.
The fashion journalist manages to frame transversely between architecture, art and fashione; He\she describes fabrics and silhouettes with technical expertise: Matelasse jacquard, lace, organza, pleated layers cut trapezeand empire style.
But if you do not belong to any of these categories, how to go to a fashion show?
In case of not belonging to any of the categories above, going to a fashion show can turn into a real battage. Here are the options that remain. Trying to register at:
- New York Fashion week nyfw press accreditation
- Paris fashion week mode à Paris
- London fashion week London Fashion week
- Milan Fashion week Camera della moda
LFW is the only one with a specific section for bloggers. If you are accredited by these structures, they will include your contact in the press list and send will it directly to fashion brand that may decide whether to invite you or not.
Otherwise, your last card is to contact the press offices of the individual brans explaining who you are, what you do and why you want to go to the show.
An answer, in the hottest period, is a fairly remote possibility; so the advice is to arm yourself with patience; contact and dialogue with the Press Offices throughout the year showing interest in the brand; asking for a visit and taking picture of the collection; be always the most friendly and polite as possible.
A bunch of flowers to soften the hearts, especially yours, is always a good strategy.
