5 must-see movies that have inspired fashion

5 film d non perdere

Must-see movies that keep on inspiring fashion and photography.

Unlike all other forms of art, the cinema is able to grasp and take the passage of time, stopping it, in an endless possession. I would say that cinema is the sculpture of the time” – Andrej Tarkovskij

Cinema stops time, it paints ages and thins the distances between philosophy, fashion, photography and sociology. A cult movie is able to synthesize centuries of history of costume and make critics, finding an objective point of view on the innermost human psychology. It allows you to cross an endless number of historical moments with the most powerful means, more powerful than a time machine.

Photography is truth, and cinema is truth twenty-four times per second” – Jean-Luc Godard

Must-see movies to be inspired

Every time I look at a photograph I think of a movie trying to remember colors and atmosphere; and every time I watch a movie I think of the photos that I would like to take, trying to play sounds and emotions.

Different frames. In motion or static, but still moments with a strong inspirational component.

These photos were taken thinking like a movie director. A retro set, stop in the 50’s when my grandmother, a young bride,  was used to receiving someone in her living room. The dress – de ja vu of many collections ago – is a Miss Dior vintage coat. The plot: the story talks about elegance, respectability and conformity that inspires and oppresses.

These photos are like a flashbach in a bygone era  filtered through contemporary eyes.

Proprio come i  must-see movies for those who love fashion

  1. Blow – up (1966) directed by Michelangelo Antonioni. The story of a London-based fashion photographer involved in social issues. For 60’s and 70’s lovers; for those who remain nostalgic dreamer and thinksthat dreams are not an utopia; for those seeking inspiration for poses and styling.
  2.  Annie Hall  (1977) directed by Woody Allen. A cult film where the director tells us about himself and the protagonist – Diane Keaton – is fiction and reality at the same time. Like her outfits. Modernly masculine in a man’s world.
  3. “Blade runner” (1982) directed by Ridley Scott. Los Angeles 2019. Dystopian and frightening city. Impossible not see a bit of last YSL with Heide Slimane in the punk-chic style of the “replicants“, protagonists of the film.
  4.  “Grand Budapest Hotel” (2014) directed by Wes Anderson. Realistic split developed by the surreal and vivid director’s imagination who dresses Fendi, Prada and Louis Vuitton, the countless players that succeed through the rooms of his hotel.
  5.  The Danish Girl” (2015 ) directed by Hopper.  Copenhagen and Paris of the 20’s and 30’s, when women fashion starts to free up thanks to Jeanne Lanvin, Coco Chanel and Paul Poiret.
