Tell me how you work and I’ll tell you who you are. This is not a quiz, but a set of signs that make you the worker you are. When I was working for the University – just after my diploma – there was one thing I could not exactly understand. The reason why my professor got angry every time he saw my desk. It was not the absence of order that troubled him but the lack of anything personal on it! I still remember his heavy voice repeating that working in a neutral and aseptic space was like being in a house with no address.
Tell me how you work and I’ll tell you who you are, it may seem trivial but it is not
Only over time did I begin to understand what this means. The first concept is the sense of belonging to a place.
If you do not feel part of that space, if it doesn’t feel enough like it’s your own space and therefore you don’t feel comfortable and cosy there. Soyou can hardly do your best work. It probably means you don’t like your job or that it is a temporary one and that you are just passing through. So after receiving my professor’s advice, I began to colonize my space: the cup of tea, the scarf as a security blanket, pens, pencils, books, notebooks and a lamp with direct light. So, just like in a good old-fashioned American movie, every time I left, I carried my things away and I never forgot to put in the box all of the good memories.

Work at home, work in a studio, work around, tell me how you work and I’ll tell you who you are
Some people need to go out every morning to stay focused and concentrated. Others have the luck and strength to carve out a niche in theirown home. That space means the whole world. It gives them security! All that’s needed is the comforting vision of what makes feel good. A room used as an office, a table in the corner of a living room, a terrace that becomes a small and happy island. Yours!
Take a table, your favorite magazines, a small carpet to relax, a cup of tea and some plants.
Being inspired by the roofs of Rome is one of the most poetic things known to mankind! The city’s antennae, its shabby plasters and all of it’s famous contradictions.
If you feel inspired in such a place it is almost certain that you’re a writer, an artist, a designer or someone who has his head in the clouds too often.

lavorare mentre si sta con la testa tra le nuvole, questo si che è un grande privilegio, cara….in effetti i tetti di Roma sono per me uno dei migliori set fotografici, basta un po’ di fantasia
complimenti per le foto…

Definitely agree that a work station is a good reflection of one’s sense of belonging to the job and therefore it is important to maintain it well! Love your fuzzy red sweater, it looks super cozy!

I’ve been really looking forward to seeing the full set of images after seeing a preview on your Instagram – what beautiful photographs, you look wonderful Mari! I can certainly relate to this post, I far too often have my head in the clouds 🙂 I love your story of how your work desk wasn’t customised enough – how interesting your professor was frustrated by that! Hope you’re well 🙂
