What is luxury? It‘s a question I have done myself so many times and I’ve always responded with the concept of non-essential. Luxury is that je ne sais quoi that adds something, but is not essential.
When at the entrance of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London I saw the exhibition titled What is luxury? I found a kind of pleasant comfort.
Passion, Exclusivity, Innovation, Extraordinary, not Esssentiale, Accuracy, Investment, Enjoyment, Preciousness, Expertise, Opulence, Skill, Memory, Authenticity, Resource, Law, Journey, Privacy, Access.
What is luxury? at the time of fashion brands and social inequality
It’s difficult to define what is luxury today, especially considering the continuing proliferation of fashion brands, the steady growth of social inequality and the power of advertising that make us always want more and something we have not. What is luxury is a question that has acquired a less tangible meaning for many identifing something as abstract as the desire for space and time.
The production of luxury items is not enough to understand what is luxury
What is luxury if not something that has not to do with practical solutions, but with the extraordinary, the non – essential and exclusive? Luxury has the power to unlock the dreams, it leaves us imagine being somewhere else or someone else. It exists within the confines of a daily routine, but has to do with breaking the rules, with a split from normal life.
What is luxury can not be understood in 300 words, but walking through the colorful streets of Notting Hills in a cloudy London day was my ideal of luxury, at least for a day.

I haven’t previously thought about exactly what luxury is but the way you described it makes sense. It’s something extra that you don’t really need but adds a value. Love the pastel homes too!

The floral maxi dress is so beautiful and you look very lovely in it! My idea of luxury will definitely be related to spending time in a place I like too!

Beautifully written post, and I love the photos! Those colorful buildings are so pretty!
I’ve recently thought about the same question. All of us wanna have more and more of everything! And as weird as it sounds I’m quite satisfied with the stuff in my closet now when before blogging. Of course I love shopping but time after time you realize that TIME is the most luxurious thing you can have. Inspiring thoughts, Mari!

That is such a good question. What is luxury? In my opinion it’s definitely lost its strength and meaning in todays world. Luxury is more about possession and status than it is about quality.
