Fashion photography, the main rule is no rules at all. Fashion shots are often dedicated to dreams that tell us more than a dress or an accessory. Vogue, D Magazine, L’officiel, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Glamour, Marie Claire e Allure. Many blogs – new pioneers of a photograph less structured – Garance Dorè, thisisglamorous, GaryPeppergirl & co. Often the beauty of these pictures is in the apparent normality, in the poses that seem natural, in the tenderness and femininity that is not ostentatious.
Fashion photography, the keyword is creativity
When we talk about fashion photography, the first thing it comes to mind are photographers. Richard Avedon, Patrick Demarchelier (Francia 1943), Steven Meisel (Usa 1954), Peter Lindbergh (Germania 1944), Mario Testino (Perù 1954), Annie Leibovitz (Usa 1949), Steven Meisel (Usa 1954) and Giampaolo Sgura.
Actually fashion photography is much more than this. A research on location, an architecture, an object far from the dress itself, the capacity and ability of the model to interact with the issue. It is not a coincidence that one of the most photographed models of all time is the eclectic Kate Moss.
“Strike a pose” and play with Fashion photography
Fshion photography, unlike other fields has always focused more on poses. A game of forms that often brings the model to adopt almost grotesque attitudes in order to increase the artistry.
Among classic poses, used since the birth of fashion photography are:
# Shoulders widened, stomach in, narrow waist and arms above your head. All of these measures help to slim the figure and the body.
# Hand on hips and elbow out, to give a sense of dynamism and enhance the figure.
#A knee that hides the other, to add curves to your body.
Creative poses, let’s experiment
Since there are no rules of light, shadow and canonical proportions, all the rest is all about being original and smart. These are some, so called, creative poses you could try:
Photos with back or belly on the ground: it is appropriate to photograph at model’s eye and arrange with care hair on the floor.
Portrait from top to bottom: you get a most innocent expression of the model
Portrait from the bottom up: lengthens the figure and slender legs.
The broken doll pose: proposed by model Tyra Lynne Banks means to assume positions of the body angled and fragmented.
