Paris versus New York

Yesterday in the bookstore I completely lost myself. Books with catchy titles and flashy covers that continually drew my attention from one shelf to another.

I’ve casually browsed some of them, I bought one or two and I also read something there, sitting on the stool of the Harvard COOP library.

“Paris versus New York” is not simply a book, it’s mainly a collection of postcards from New York and Paris in comparison. Actually these are Vahram Muratyan‘s graphics works, an artist and graphic who lives between the two cities (poor man!!!).

Icons of Paris compared with the ones of the Big Apple. Not only the Eiffell Tower and the Statue of Liberty; but also the espresso, in the small cup, against the americano, long and drunk walking; Amelie’s black carrè versus Carrie’s blond long hairstyle, the Louvre pyramid and the Apple store glass box on the 5th Avenue; Karl & Marc; macaron versus cupcake.

His job is now a book, but previously it was his blog that I kindly ask you to visit.

And now I’m thinking, what about Rome (my city) versus New York? not sure wether a possible comparison could work!

Or a Rome versus Paris challenge? what do you think?!?

Ieri in libreria mi sono letteralmente persa. Libri dai titoli accattivanti e dalle immagini ammiccanti che, come flash pubblicitari senza sosta, richiamavano la mia attenzione ora su uno scaffale ora su un altro.

Alcuni li ho sfogliati distrattamente, qualcosa ho comprato e qualcos’altro ho letto lì, seduta, sullo sgabello della Harvard COOP library.

“Paris versus New York” un libro che è più che altro una raccolta di cartoline da Parigi e da New York a confronto. In realtà sono elaborazioni grafiche di Vahram Muratyan, un grafico e artista che vive tra le due città (poveretto!!!).

I simboli di Parigi a confronto con quelli della Grande Mela. Non solo la Torre Eiffel e la Statua della Libertà, ma anche il caffè espresso in tazza piccola – che definirei più italiano, ma si sa che tra Italiani e Francesi c’è sempre una competizione in corso – e quello lungo americano nella famosa “cup”; il carré nero di Amelie con il taglio lungo, mosso e biondo platino di Carrie; la piramide del Louvre e il cubo di vetro dell’Apple Store sulla Fifth Avenue; Karl Lagerfield e Marc Jacobs, gli Champs – Elysées e Times Square; il macaron e la cupcake.

Tutto il suo lavoro è ora su un libro che inizialmente era un blog parisvsnyc.

E alla fine non posso fare a meno di pensare e se fosse Roma contro New York? Non so neanche se sono paragonabili.

Forse sarebbe più lecito fare una sfida quasi in casa Roma versus Paris? oppure???
