There are clothes made to be worn. It is ‘love at first sight’. You understand it quickly, immediately as you can imagine those dresses on you, stitched as onto a rag doll. They are as you have always imagined, maybe better. Then, there are clothes made to be seen.
Between the pages of a magazine, on the catwalks and during important ceremonies. Those clothes are the ones that you think you would wear at least once, maybe in Paris or in London and why not, in Venice. This is what I felt when I saw the last runways covered with “baroque”. I’ve always been fascinated with the Baroque. In architecture. In Art. For the opulence, the gold, the rich details and the ornaments … because not always the “less is more mantra” is the best way… because sometimes performing and displaying have their own charm and power. Sumptuous fabrics like velvets and brocades. Tapestries and lace. Gold filigrees and many details. Flowers, many flowers embroidered as a upholstery. That in Italy you can find them in the old houses. Sometimes on the tables. Sometimes as curtains. Sometimes on the grandmother’s pillows.
The trend is pervasive. Statement jewelry on a total black look. A dramatic blazer over a classic trousers. A “luxurious” blouse, maybe like those Renaissance inspired by Dolce and Gabbana, on a skinny jeans and a pair of Pigalle. Personally I would opt for a pair of pants or a sweater from Balmain and as you all know my green inspiration, I’d gladly cover myself with Dolce & Gabbana or Valentino’s blooming flowers..

Ci sono vestiti che nascono per essere indossati. E’ amore a prima vista. In architettura. In Arte. Per l’opulenza, l’oro, la ricchezza dei dettagli e degli ornamenti…perché non sempre il mantra del “less is more” (il meno è più) è quello vincente…perché a volte “esibire e ostentare” ha il suo fascino e il suo potere. Tessuti sontuosi come velluti e broccati. Arazzi e pizzi. Filigrane d’oro e tanti dettagli. Fiori, tanti fiori ricamati come tappezzeria. Che in Italia li trovi nelle case antiche. A volte sui tavoli. A volte come tende.

It’s surely one of the most fascinating trend! Full of inspirations and details…just like in the other disciplines! thank you for stopping by! muah
Hi Marinella:-)
Love your blog too. Many of my blogger friends are 100% (!) Italian just like you. Italians have such a sense of elegance and style. I am fond of Italian fashion design (got married in a Max Mara suit just to tell you…).
Funny that you mentioned Dolce Gabbana. That was the first name which popped to my mind when I read the word “baroque”. As you know 😉 I love scarves and Dolce Gabbana ‘s scarf-shoes are so so baroque. Viva il barocco! 9i don’t speak Italian but I like to pretend I do – such a beautiful language).
See you – on your blog and/ or mine.
xo,
Anne (Playing With scarves)
Hi and welcome to my blog! It’ a great pleasure. As Italian, and as a fashion lover I can’t stop being fascinated with everything beautiful and creative. I’ve seen many times Max Mara wedding dress in the shop windows and I think they are pretty cute. Extremely elegant in their simplicity. Dolce e Gabbana has definitely won the baroque palm this year. Parliamo Italiano allora! (let’s speak italian then). I’m so proud people love my language. enjoy!
I don’t love the Italian language. I ADORE it:-) I keep saying I am going to learn it but but but time is flying and I am to lazy/busy… LOL!
My Max Mara wedding outfit was just a “simple” creamy white suit – with a mini mini skirt……. The priest was horrified but I didn’t care.
Ciao cara mia. Arrivederci (still pretending) 🙂
pretending is the right way to obtaining! go forward! baciiii

I think the picture of the dog jumping may be Anna Dello Russo and her dog, judging by the killer legs 🙂
I had the same impression, but I was not sure! no source on the pic….but those legs can’t lie! hahah
thanks for commenting bellezza!
The baroque trend is one of my favorite! especially in Balmain!
Thank you for sharing these photos, Marinella. An inspiration for my next painting.

My favorite interpretation was Balmain one. it manages to find the right balance between the trend came from 17th century with modern cut and woman life.
pure beauty!!!
Stunning!! It is a ( classic) trend that i’m in love with! I would like a pair of pants or sweater in this style from Balmain, too:) Great post! -Kristysamone.com
This is amazing! Love it, the pictures were extraordinary.
Ahh love this inspiration post! I’d love to own a few pieces…
Wow great pictures!
Ei Liss, I really had a lot of fun looking for inspirations for this post!
I may be a country type but WOW do I love baroque. Actually there is no contradiction because baroque is pure nature, abundant, effusive like a garden in full bloom or an ice frosted tree in winter. Thanks for these and for your like.
GAHHH I love Balmain! Favorite. Thank you for sharing 🙂
You wrote a blog post about my wedding dress 🙂
which is your wedding dress?
😀
My wedding dress has the simple elegance of a garment made to be worn but the bodice has the intricate detailing that’s made to be seen. The made to be seen is why I tried it on in the first place. It was, in style, not at all what I had pictured wearing. And once I was wearing it I never wanted to wear anything else ever again. 🙂
Bellissima foto! 🙂
Bacio!
We have just made an Inspiration Post about Baroque just some days ago, we are obsessed with this trend!
